No irregularities were committed while building the Noida Twin Towers, claimed RK Arora, chairman of Supertech, which built the buildings. His comments came hours before the towers were to be demolished on Sunday following the Supreme Court (SC) order. Arora told The New Indian: “We respect the Supreme Court order. The Twin Towers were built in adherence with the map permitted by the Noida Authority.”

“After the SC issued the demolition order on some technical grounds, we hired Edifice Engineering to raze it. I am hopeful that the self-demolition will be done in a proper manner,” he added.

“I assure everyone that our ongoing projects won’t get affected due to this demolition. All construction works will continue as scheduled. Due to the confidence of our clients, we have delivered almost 70,000 houses, and all projects in the pipeline will be completed on time,” Arora pointed out.

“I urge everyone –the clients and the media – to keep little patience and avoid creating panic during the demolition,” he underlined.

The SC had ordered the demolition of the towers after it was found that they were constructed illegally. Cases were also registered and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to probe the unholy nexus between builders and officials of Noida Authority.

Ahead of the demolition, the residents, living in the nearby areas of the towers, were moved to safer locations. A 500-meter area around the building was cordoned off. All the connecting roads to the twin towers were closed from 7 am onwards. DCP (central Noida) Rajesh S said: “Routes will be diverted and traffic on Noida Expressway stopped for at least half-an-hour.”

Proper scientific disposal of debris (over 50,000 tonnes) will be carried out and within 90 days, the entire area will be cleared. To control the dust pollution in the environment, at least 10 anti-smog devices have also been installed near the site.
