NEW DELHI: After a shooting incident linking national wrestler Nisha Dahiya triggered a social media storm, Olympian Sakshi Malik on Wednesday evening denied any such mishap took place and confirmed her colleague is safe.
Malik tweeted at 6:59 PM, “She is alive, #nishadahiya #fakenews,” Malik tweeted. The two wrestlers were together training in Uttar Pradesh.
Some social media handles including a sports writer from ESPN wrote ,”Huge error on my end. Trusted a news report. Nisha Dahiya is safe and well. Apologies.”

Later, Wrestling president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh also told media that it was a case of mistaken identity.
Dahiya had brought glory to the country by winning a bronze medal at a world championship last week.
Some prominent TV news channels fell for the fake news alert and ran the story that Dahiya was dead.
Top Haryana Police officials confirmed that the wrestler and her brother Suraj were alive.

Later, Nisha Dahiya also posted on her Instagram handle that she was safe and was in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda to participate in senior national championship. Sakshi Malik is seen sitting beside her.
