NIRF 2024: IIT Madras, Hindu College, IIM Ahmedabad take top spots

New Delhi — Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan has unveiled the much-anticipated National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, marking the ninth edition of these prestigious rankings. The results, now available on the official NIRF website (nirfindia.org), evaluate institutions across 13 diverse categories, including engineering, management, medical education, and more.

Top Engineering Institutes:
Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) continues its reign at the top of the engineering category, followed by IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay. Other IITs, including those in Kanpur, Kharagpur, and Roorkee, dominate the top ten, with NIT Tiruchirappalli being the only non-IIT institution on the list.

University Rankings:
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru has once again secured its position as the leading university in India. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi, and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Delhi, round out the top three, highlighting the prominence of Delhi-based institutions.

Overall Top Institutes:
IIT Madras has also clinched the number one spot in the overall ranking category, followed by IISc Bengaluru and IIT Bombay. These institutions exemplify excellence in education, research, and innovation.

Management Category:
The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad) leads in the management category, with IIM Bangalore and IIM Kozhikode closely behind. The inclusion of IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay in the top ten underscores the interdisciplinary strengths of these institutions.

Medical Colleges:
In the medical education field, AIIMS Delhi remains the undisputed leader, with PGIMER Chandigarh and Christian Medical College Vellore securing the second and third positions, respectively.

Colleges:
Among colleges, Delhi University’s Hindu College is ranked as the best in the country, followed by Miranda House and St. Stephen’s College, also from Delhi University. These colleges continue to set benchmarks in undergraduate education.

State Universities:
Anna University, Chennai, leads the state university rankings, with Jadavpur University, Kolkata, and Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, in the second and third spots, respectively.

Law Institutes:
National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, retains its top position in the law category, with National Law University, Delhi, and NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, following closely.

Architecture and Planning:
IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur have been ranked first and second, respectively, in the architecture and planning category, reflecting their strong focus on this field.

Open Universities
In the open universities category, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) continues to lead, followed by Netaji Subhash Open University, Kolkata.
