NEW DELHI: Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen is ready to step out of the shadow of her illustrious compatriot Mary Kom and carve her niche in the sport, her coach has said. The statement comes as Zareen gears up for upcoming international competitions.

“Nikhat has always been a talented boxer and she has proven her mettle at various national and international platforms. However, being contemporaries with a legend like Mary Kom often led to comparisons. Now, she is ready to create her own identity and step out of that shadow,” her coach stated.

Nikhat Zareen, born on June 14, 1996, has a remarkable track record in the sport. Her talent and dedication have earned her numerous accolades, including two-time world champion titles. Zareen clinched the gold medal at the 2011 AIBA Women’s Youth & Junior World Boxing Championships held in Antalya, showcasing her prowess at a young age.

Zareen’s outstanding performances underscore her exceptional talent and unwavering commitment to the sport of boxing.

Zareen, the former junior world champion, has been a consistent performer in the flyweight (51kg) category, the same category as Mary Kom, a six-time world champion. This has often led to intense competition and comparisons between the two.

The coach further added, “Nikhat is a dedicated and hardworking athlete. She has been training rigorously and is focused on her goals. We believe she has the potential to achieve great heights in her boxing career.”

This statement marks a significant moment in Zareen’s career as she continues to make strides in the sport. With her talent and determination, she is indeed ready to carve out her legacy and inspire future generations of boxers in India.
