NEW DELHI: Rakesh Balwal, who led the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) investigation into the February 2019 Pulwama terror attack case apart from multiple terror probes was on Saturday sent to serve the Jammu and Kashmir Police for a three-year tenure.
In its order, the Centre said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for inter-cadre deputation of Balwal from Manipur cadre to AGMUT cadre (UT of J&K) for an initial period of three years in relaxation of the policy.” Also Read & Watch: Unfazed By Terror Attacks, Bihari Settlers In Kashmir Say ‘Will Live & Work Here’
Balwal, a 2012 batch officer of the Manipur cadre was posted as Superintendent of Police (SP) in NIA since 2018. He was instrumental in cracking the February 14, 2019 Pulwama terror attack case, in which 40 CRPF troopers were killed.
Balwal presented a water tight case in the terror attack case and exposed the network of the Pakistan-based terror organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad and its leadership including Maulana Masood Azhar, his brother and several others behind the attack.
