NIA Files Case Over Udaipur Murder Horror Hours After MHA Order

NEW DELHI: A day after the brutal killing of a tailor in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday filed a case against the two accused, who were arrested by the Rajasthan Police.

The development comes hours after the Union ministry of home affairs transferred the case to the NIA to probe the terror and international links in connection with the murder of Kanhaiya Lal Teli, who was butchered to death in his shop on Tuesday by two Muslim youths.

An NIA spokesperson here said, “The agency has taken over the case under sections 452, 302, 153(A), 153(B), 295(A) & 34 of IPC and sections 16, 18 & 20 of UA(P) Act, 1967 against accused who have conspired, planned and committed the heinous murder of Telli on June 28.”

The New Indian reported on Tuesday that a team of the anti-terror probe agency had left for the Udaipur to look at the gruesome act of the murder and filming of the entire sequence.

The NIA source said that the way in which assailants prepared the video and also uploaded it on social media to create terror in society by brandishing their blood-soaked weapons, the agency has taken the matter seriously.

The source said that the NIA will investigate to find if the arrested accused have any links to any terror outfits. After killing Telli, the two assailants also threatened to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The NIA spokesperson said that anti-terror probe agency teams have already reached Udaipur and requisite action for expeditious investigation of the case has already been initiated.

The official said that the case was initially registered at Dhanmandi police station in Udaipur on June 29 pertaining to the murder of Telli on June 28 by two accused, who had inflicted multiple injuries to the victim with sharp weapons.

The official said that the accused persons had also circulated a video of the criminal act on social media claiming responsibility for the murder in order to trigger panic and strike terror among the masses across the country.
