Hours after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) along with the local police conducted raids in 10 states and nabbed over 100 members of the Popular Front of India (PFI), the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) welcomed the operation. They said the raids, carried out since Thursday morning, will break the backbone of the organsiation that spreads “Islamic Jihad” in the country.
The PFI remains on the radar of the security agency for its alleged anti-national and terrorist activities. The NIA arrested several PFI state heads and seized documents from their residences and offices.

BJP leader Kapil Mishra claimed that PFI had a hand in the 2020 Delhi riots and also in the murder of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur. “Decisive action against PFI… A scathing attack on the backbone of Islamic Jihad in India. Be it Kanhaiya Lal ji’s murder or Delhi riots, PFI has a role in every incident. PFI people there in politics, media and also in universities,” tweeted Mishra. He also praised the prime minister and union home minister for the crackdown on PFI.
In Delhi, three persons, including Parvez Ahmed who is stated to be the Delhi unit head of the PFI, were arrested by a joint team of ED and NIA. His house was raided by the probe agency sleuths at 7 am on Thursday. Ahmed was taken to the ED office.
Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta said that this organisation (PFI) is believed to be working viciously to “destroy the social fabric of our country”. “PFI instigates people belonging to a particular section/community. There are reports that the probe agency has found PFI links in cases of terror activities and violence,” said Gupta.
Gupta also said the crackdown on PFI is a welcome step and it is commendable that the agency has acted against the state heads of this outfit. “The workers of this organisation are stated to be working on the behest of foreign handlers and get money from them,” he added.
