NEW DELHI: In a massive action, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday arrested Mohammad Salim aka Salim Fruit, a close associate of the Dawood Ibrahim syndicate who played an active role in extorting huge amounts of money in the name of underworld gangster Chhota Shakeel through property dealings and dispute settlements, for raising terror funds in furtherance of terrorist activities.
An NIA spokesperson in New Delhi said that the agency has arrested Salim today in the case relating to the activities of the Dawood gang.
The NIA had registered a case on suo moto on February 3 this year pertaining to terrorist or criminal activities through smuggling, narco-terrorism, money laundering, circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN), unauthorized possession or acquisition of key assets for raising terror funds and working in active collaboration with the international terrorist organization including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Al Qaeda by Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar aka Dawood Bhai and his associates.
Earlier, NIA had arrested two persons on May 12 this year.
The NIA said that Salim is a close associate of D Company. The official said that he played an active role in extorting a huge amount of money in the name of Chhota Shakeel through property dealings and dispute settlements for raising terror funds in furtherance of the terrorist activities of the Dawood gang.
