NEW DELHI: The newly minted Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma got his designation officially, as Friday was his oath-taking ceremony. BJP MLA Sharma, whose birthday and oath ceremony serendipitously fell on the same day, indulged in rituals and traditions to seek auspicious blessings on his big day.

CM Sharma took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), and wrote, “Today, before the birthday celebration and oath-taking ceremony, received blessings and affection by paying homage at the feet of the flagbearer of ancient Sanatan culture, the revered storyteller Mridul Krishna Shastri Maharaj.”

Bhajan’s selection came as a surprise to many, where he was chosen over many probable and promising Chief Ministerial candidates like Vasundhra Raje, Diya Kumari, and Baba Balaknath. He won the elections from the Sanganer assembly seat with an impressive margin of over 48,000 votes and emerged triumphant with 145,162 votes, surpassing Congress’ Pushpendra Bhardwaj, who received 97,081 votes.

The ceremonial event, which coincided with Bhajan’s birthday, witnessed the presence of eminent political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and chief ministers from several BJP-governed states. The outgoing Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, was also in attendance at the ceremony.
