NEW DELHI: Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra is set to spend time in US for a grueling 90-day training after Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Friday approved a proposal, with his last appearance  in the country to be a visit to a school on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mission on fitness.

Chopra will visit an Ahmedabad school to to spread awareness about balance diet, fitness and sports.

SAI said that the proposal, moved by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), was approved inside four hours to ensure the javelin thrower can fly out on Sunday.

The cost approved to train at the prestigious Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Centre under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) will be Rs 38 lakh.

Javelin throwers were earlier scheduled to train in Potchefstroom but the plan was scotched due to new emerging Omicron COVID-19 strain in South Africa.
