In a press note issued by NCW, the commission informed that it has taken suo moto cognisance of the matter.

Sharma has written to the Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu to intervene and take appropriate action against the offender as per provisions of law to refrain him from making such kind of statements in future.

The National Commission for Women has also asked Twitter to block the account of actor Siddharth against his “lewd and inappropriate” tweet against Nehwal.

Siddharth made a comment on a tweet by Nehwal about the alleged lapse in the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Punjab visit.

The NCW has also written to DGP Maharashtra to immediately investigate the matter and register FIR under relevant provisions of the law. The commission has sought prompt and strict action against him for using indecent language for women on social media.

NCW claimed the comment was misogynist, outrages the modesty of a woman and amounts to disrespect and insults the dignity of women.

Actor Siddharth over the allegations said that nothing disrespectful was intended. Tweet by actor read,

“Cock & Bull, That’s the reference. Reading otherwise is unfair and leading. Nothing disrespectful was intended, said or insinuated. Period”
