BJP national president will visit West Bengal in the first half of June, aiming to streamline the party’s strategies and organisational structures
NEW DELHI: While the dates for the panchayat election are yet to be finalised, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems to have to gear up for party national president JP Nadda to visit West Bengal in June.
“The national president will be in West Bengal in the first half of June to finalise strategies before the state goes for the panchayat election. He is also likely to visit a few districts,” a source in the party told The New Indian.
Amid reports of discord among the party leaders in West Bengal, the BJP’s central leadership is keen to streamline strategies and organisational structures in the state. Nadda’s visit is a step in that direction, the party source added.
The source also said that the BJP will contest the panchayat election, which may be held in July, based on its strength. The source also said that the party will focus on districts that it lost by narrow margins during the state’s assembly election in 2021.
“Nadda had earlier visited the state in January and February, during which he interacted with the public at large and addressed various rallies. However, this time he will be focusing more on the district level to strengthen the party at the grassroots level,” the source said.
While the dates are yet to be announced, the preparations for the panchayat elections are in full swing in the state, with the parties focusing on reaching out to the public through various campaigns.
The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has already made the first move, with party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee leading the outreach program with his Jana Sanjog Yatra. Banerjee’s Yatra is important for the party after its image took a dent following the alleged involvement of some of its top leaders in various scams.
Interestingly, in the 2018 panchayat election, TMC managed to win a whopping 90 per cent of the seats. While the party might not repeat the act, the elections will serve as an acid test for all the political parties in the state ahead of the all-important 2024 general elections.
