In more troubles for jailed UP mafia Atiq Ahmed, a Muslim man has filed an FIR against him and his aides for allegedly demanding a ransom of ₹1 crore and opening fire at him on denial in Prayagraj district in 2019.
In an FIR lodged with the Dhoomanganj police, victim Sabir Hussain has named Atiq, his son Ali, and a close associate Asad Kalia along with several others.
Narrating his ordeal, Hussain, a resident of Dhoomanganj area in Prayagraj, said that Atiq’s men came to his house demanding the ransom and opened indiscriminate fire on him when he refused to pay heed to their unjust demand in April, 2019.
“On April 14, 2019, Asad Kalia arrived at my home with a few other assailants and asked me to speak to Atiq Ahmed over the phone. When I refused, one of them trained a pistol at me and warned me against opposing Atiq in a legal case. They then demanded ₹1 crore as ransom. When I refused, they started firing at me indiscriminately with the intention to kill me,” he said.
In his FIR, Hussain said that he somehow managed to flee to safety.
“Even after that incident, they keep finding ways to harass and threaten me. On February 15, 2023, Atiq’s cousin Aslam Mantri and Asad Kalia came to my home and asked me to go with them to Gujarat to meet Atiq Ahmed. They said Atiq had summoned me. When I refused, they again started beating and abusing me and demanded ₹1 crore.”
The victim said he could not file a case so far due to Atiq’s fear. “I gathered courage to file a case against him after the government’s crackdown on Atiq,” he said.
In his police complaint, the victim said that Atiq should be held responsible if something happened to him after the FIR.
He also submitted CCTV footage showing Atiq’s men knowing his door and then throwing bricks inside his home located in Zafar Colony.
The police have registered a case against the accused under several sections, including 147/148/149/307/386/286/504/506/120 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
This incident comes after Atiq Ahmed, a gangster-turned-politician, was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Umesh Pal kidnapping case on March 28. A court in Prayagraj convicted Atiq, Dinesh Pasi, and Khan Saulat Hanif in the case and imposed a fine of ₹5,000 on Atiq. He was transported from a jail in Sabarmati, Gujarat, to Prayagraj.
