BORIVALI: The heartbroken family of Asgar Ali, who tragically lost his life at the hands of Railway Protection Force (RPF) Constable Chetan Singh, is resolutely seeking justice. Amidst their grief, the family is calling for the strictest punishment for Constable Chetan Singh and seeking appropriate compensation for the irreversible damage caused by the actions of a government official.

However, the family members are keen to clarify that they do not want to fuel a communal narrative around the incident. They acknowledge that certain remarks were made by the constable in a video, but their primary focus remains on seeking justice rather than turning it into a Hindu-Muslim issue. “We don’t want to make it a Hindu-Muslim issue, but we want justice. He should be hanged,” they emphasized, highlighting their quest for accountability and fairness in the case.

Asgar Ali, a 48-year-old craftsman, was the sole breadwinner for his family, survived by a wife and five children. He was on his way from Jaipur to Mumbai in search of employment, as their sources of income in Jaipur had dried up. The incident has left the family shattered, seeking answers and closure.

A family member, Shaikh Mohammad Asif, said, “Chetan Singh was meant to protect people, but a government employee was responsible for the killing of passengers. That’s why we are demanding a government job for the nearest kin as compensation. Just 10 lakh rupees is not enough.”

Adding to the family’s distress, they shared their struggle with the lack of cooperation from authorities in transferring Asgar Ali’s body from Mumbai to Jaipur, where the family resides. “They haven’t even shared the FIR with us. There is a lack of cooperation from the authorities,” Asif stated, expressing frustration.
