SRINAGAR: In preparation for Republic Day, security measures have been significantly reinforced across Kashmir to ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations. Police and paramilitary forces have launched extensive area sanitization and dominance operations to maintain law and order.

The central Republic Day event in Kashmir will take place at Bakshi Stadium, where security barricades have been set up at both northern and southern entrances. Security forces have increased their presence in Srinagar and other district headquarters, establishing checkpoints at key locations, particularly at city and district entry points.

Officials reported that vehicles and individuals are being randomly checked, with frisking operations underway to prevent any subversive activity. A multi-layered security framework has been implemented around celebration venues, including Bakshi Stadium.

Preparations are progressing at full speed. Robust multi-tier security will allow people to enjoy the Republic Day function and parade peacefully,” said V. K. Birdi, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone.

Security agencies have been instructed to remain vigilant and ensure no disruptions occur during the festivities. Officials stressed the importance of maintaining order and preserving peace across the region.

In a separate operation, security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from a government primary school in Larmooh, Awantipora, located in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The joint operation, conducted by police, the 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), and the 130th Battalion of the CRPF, unearthed items including a grenade, an under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), electric and non-electric detonators, 10 rounds of ammunition, and a pistol magazine.

Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, V. K. Bhidhuri, assured that this year’s Republic Day arrangements will surpass those of previous years. With growing public enthusiasm observed last year, the administration plans to enhance the viewing experience by installing high-quality LED screens at the venue. Entry to the event will remain free for attendees, as was the case last year.
