NEW DELHI: Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairperson, Jagdeep Dhankhar, invited Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to his residence to discuss the issue of MP suspension on Christmas at 4 PM.
Dhankhar, through his letter sent to the Congress chief on Saturday, stated the reasons for the suspension of the parliamentarians. “Painfully I had to suffer in the House your stance ‘rejecting’ my offer for interaction in Chamber. On reflection you will agree that avoidance of interaction with the Chairman and rebuff to such request on the floor of the House by Leader of the Opposition is unwholesomely unprecedented and certainly is not in sync with well-established parliamentary practice, of which you are a veteran,” his letter read.
Dhankhar blamed the Congress chief of creating disorder in the House. Furthermore, he highlighted that the Opposition MPs in the Upper House were ousted due to disorder in the House, stating that “all efforts and initiatives were exhausted at my end to secure order in the House, including by way of brief adjournments and seeking interactions in my Chamber.”

“The premise of suspensions, contrary to your stance, was deliberate disorder in the House by way of sloganeerings, raising placards, entering the well of the House and gesticulating towards the Chair,” read the letter.
The letter highlighted that due to their undignified behaviour and ouster, they missed out the chance to “unshackle us from colonial legal regime”.

“By engaging in disorderly conduct the opposition had a lifetime miss- in not availing the opportunity to contribute in the debate and discussion on the three historic legislations-the Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill, replacing the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act. These legislations bring about unshackling us from colonial legal regime,” Dhankhar’s letter read.
During the Winter Session of the Parliament, 141 MPs were ousted out from both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha.
