NEW DELHI: Amid the โSheesh Mahalโ controversy ahead of the Delhi Assembly election 2025, Delhi voters told The New Indian team on the ground that Prime Minister Narendra Modi deserves a Sheesh Mahal, not Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The controversy erupted when the BJP dubbed the 6 Flagstaff Road bungalow, previously occupied by AAP national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, as a โSheesh Mahal.โ In retaliation, the ruling party in Delhi has labeled Prime Minister Narendra Modiโs residence as a โRaj Mahal.โ

Commenting on the controversy, a Delhi voter emerging from a shopping outlet in Connaught Place said with a cunning smile, โModi Ji deserves a Sheesh Mahal.โ Sharing his views on Kejriwalโs arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on July 21, 2014, he added, โIf the BJP-led government is accusing him of bribery, then it might be 100% true.โ
Another voter, Ashwini Sahani, from the Moti Nagar Constituency also supported PM Modi, saying, โHe is the Prime Minister; he needs security and multiple cars. Kejriwal, before coming to power, had promised that he would not take any of these and would walk instead like a common man, but he is a total liar.โ Many voters from different constituencies have refrained from commenting, claiming they donโt know the reality and that this might just be a way to divert the public from competing parties during the election.
During its election campaign, the BJP has not only accused AAP of building their โSheesh Mahalโ using money from common people and jhuggi dwellers but has also distributed 16,874 flat keys to jhuggi dwellers, garnering support from this demographic. Premdas Mishra, a man in his late 30s or early 40s, remarked, โKejriwal has done nothing. I see blocked roads everywhere. There are stray dogs instead of doctors in the mohalla clinics. Modi Ji has distributed houses to the poor. Look at the high-quality houses he has provided.โ
AAP leaders attempted to lead media tours of the Chief Ministerโs residence to counter the BJPโs claims about luxurious renovations, such as a swimming pool and a golden commode. However, the police prevented them from entering.

AAP leaders then tried to march to the Prime Ministerโs residence but were stopped near Lok Kalyan Marg Metro Station, where they staged a protest.
