EXCLUSIVE: HP Minister Bikram Thakur Rubbishes Rumours Of Leadership Change In State In Aftermath Of Defeat

SHIMLA: Following the devastating defeat of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recently held by-elections, Bikram Thakur, a senior cabinet minister in the Jairam Thakur Government, brushed aside rumours that a change in the state leadership is being considered. “We cannot stop rumours from spreading, but we are definitely detailing strategies to rectify causes that led to this defeat in all four states,” Thakur told The New Indian in an exclusive interview. Hailing from Kangra (also known as the political capital of the state), Thakur said that the BJP takes everyone seriously and this includes critics and well wishers. “A politician’s life is such and the best we can do as a party is learn from the good and inculcate them into the party and government.”

The minister, who holds the industry, transport, labour and employment portfolios, disclosed that the government has devised various strategies to tackle unemployment through the private sector. He also informed that the BJP government is now aiming to provide a convenient and business friendly atmosphere in every sector.

Post Covid-19, we identified and extended support to businesses that were badly hit and required greater help from the government. For example, youth employed in the transport sector, especially those operating taxis have been given relief. MSMEs and hotels have been given relief in the form of tax rebates. Horticulturalists and agriculturalists have also been provided relief. I am happy that people appreciate that the government stood by them during these tough times

The BJP had lost all four seats in a direct contest with the Congress in the state, which had made national headlines due to this very reason. The loss has dealt a severe blow to the image of the BJP, which has given Himachal a significant representation at the Central level in the form of BJP national president JP Nadda and Union minister Anurag Thakur.
