RANCHI: Jharkhand Mining and Geology department secretary Pooja Singhal and her husband Abhishek Jha on Tuesday joined the Enforcement Directorate’s probe in connection with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scam to the tune of Rs 18 crore.

Singhal came on ED’s radar last week after the agency sleuths carried out searches at her premises and several other locations, including that of a Chartered Accountant and seized cash to the tune of Rs 19.31 crore.

Singhal and her husband arrived at the ED office around 11.40 am.

This is for the third time that Jha is being quizzed by the ED. He was questioned for over 12 hours on Monday and over eight hours on Sunday by the ED officials.

During questioning, the ED officials asked Jha about his financial and property details. He was also asked about his investment in some companies.

Singhal, a 2000 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was posted as the deputy commissioner in the Khunti district earlier.

The ED action against Singhal came after her name cropped up during the financial agency’s probe against Ram Binod Prasad Sinha, the then section officer and junior engineer of Kunti, who was arrested after 16 cases were registered against him by the state’s Vigilance Bureau.

The ED had earlier filed a chargesheet in the case against Sinha for misappropriation of funds.
