Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday claimed she had been put under house arrest to stop her from visiting the family of Kashmiri Pandit Sunil Kumar Bhat, who was shot dead by terrorists in Shopian last week.
“GOI wants to push the plight of Kashmiri Pandits under the rug because it’s their callous policies that have led to unfortunate targetted killings of those who chose not to flee. Projecting us mainstream as their enemy is why I have been placed under house arrest today,” she wrote on Twitter.
Mehbooba posted pictures of the locked gates of her residence in Gupkar area here and a CRPF vehicle parked outside.
Suhail Bukhari, spokesperson of the PDP, said that Mufti on Sunday planned to go to Chotigam village of Shopian district, where terrorists had gunned down a local Kashmiri Pandit on August 16.
Despite PDP’s claims, there has been no official word on Mufti being placed under house arrest.
Earlier on Thursday, Mufti hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said the party is adopting a policy to disempower locals in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Voting rights to non-locals is BJP conspiracy to win elections. Every blood drop that drops in Kashmir is cashed in on by them in country,” Mufti had said. “Regional political parties of Jammu and Kashmir are deeply anguished, following announcement of possible addition of around 25 lakh fresh voters, which include voting rights to non-locals staying temporarily in the UT,” she had added.
Meanwhile, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah called for an all-party meeting in Srinagar to discuss the voting rights issue on Monday. Leaders of all parties, except BJP, have been invited for the meeting that will be held at Gupkar residence of Farooq Abdullah.
