MCX Scam: Call For CBI Enquiry Grows In Sikkim

GANGTOK: Sikkim unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has registered an FIR against unknown persons and companies in connection with an alleged scam in Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) at Sadar police station here.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, BJP Sikkim President DB Chauhan demanded law enforcement agencies investigate the matter in depth and ask the state government to hand over the probe of the case running into billions to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

“Sikkimese demand the state government make a clear path for CBI to enter in Sikkim to investigate the multi-billion dollar scam,” state BJP President DB Chauhan said.

According to reports, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) has come under the scanner of the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) preliminary probe concerning illegitimate trading from the state of Sikkim.

“Even the CM had announced an enquiry but so far nothing has been done. The Sikkim BJP had enquired with Vigilance Department and Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding MCX but found that there was no special initiative,” he further alleged.

Lashing out at the state government, Chauhan said, “Not handing over the case to the CBI also raises many doubts on the government.”

The erstwhile Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) government issued a notification in 2010 making it mandatory for the CBI to seek the state government’s prior consent to start any investigation against public representatives and officers in the state.
