BJP leaders staged a sit-in protest against AAP for Friday's violence inside MCD House.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Delhi unit has demanded a case of an “attempt to murder” against legislators and councillors of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for “attacking” saffron leaders inside the House of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

On Saturday, senior BJP leaders, councillors and workers staged a sit-in protest in front of Rajghat against the violent clashes on Friday when the unified House convened for the first time to elect mayor and deputy mayor.

Addressing demonstrators, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri alleged that BJP councillors were attacked by “AAP goons” on the instructions of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

“We demand the Lieutenant Governor to order the registration of a case of attempt to murder against AAP leaders and councillors who attacked BJP members,” Bidhuri said.

Sending out a strong warning to AAP leaders, he said that the law will teach a lesson to such errant leaders.

“Based on the instructions of Kejriwal, 13 MLAs, including Atishi and Jarnail Singh, insulted the Constitution inside the MCD House. They attacked the presiding officer with chairs and tried to kill her,” the BJP leader said.

On Friday, councillors of BJP and AAP came to blows and fought with chairs over the appointment of 10 aldermen by LG VK Saxena, leaving several councillors from both sides injured. Some of them have sustained tears in ligaments.

Speaking at the protest site, former Union health minister and BJP MP Harsh Vardha accused the AAP of violating the Constitution of India by indulging in hooliganism.

“In the three decades of my public, I never witnessed anything like what I saw in the MDC House yesterday. I am not sure whether Kejriwal is ashamed of the conduct of his leaders. It was the height of hooliganism,” he said.

Both AAP and BJP have blamed each other for initiating the violence.
