The early trends are shifting very fast with BJP and AAP leading in almost equal numbers of seat. Briefly BJP had gone ahead in 106 seats, as per the election commission figures while AAP had fallen back with a lead in almost half  the number of seats. But it soon caught up.

Speaking to media AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “Initial counting happens of ballot papers. Govt employees fears while voting.  But we will cross 180 mark.”

Tajinder Bagga, BJP Delhi spokesperson said: “With passing time the difference between AAP and BJP will increase and we will increase 150 ”

The counting of votes for the elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD election) has begun. Elections to the 250 wards in the national capital were held on December 4.

The BJP has ruled the civic body for over 15 years.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced ten promises, including a garbage-free Delhi and a corruption-free civic body, if they win the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election. People of Delhi voted for the civic elections on December 4.

AAP’s 10 guarantees include no mountain of garbage, a corruption-free MCD, an end to the parking problem, a solution to the stray animal problem, good roads and lanes, good health and education, good parks, a timely salary for its employees, all problems of businessmen will be solved and a proper vending zone for small businessmen.

While releasing guarantees Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had said, “There will be no landfill site. The disposal of garbage is not rocket science. We will take the opinions of experts from London, Tokyo and remove these landfills. BJP had no intention to clean Delhi.”

BJP on its part has promised free bicycles and scholarship to meritorious girl students in Delhi, financial aid to poor widows for daughter’s marriage, 50 kitchens offering meals for Rs 5, houses for slum dwellers with central government help, waiving off of licences for factories in authorised industrial areas and mobile app for faceless services.

The poll campaigning have been characterised by a high decibel fight between BJP and AAP, with the saffron party using AAP Minister Sayendra Jain’s jail massage videos as a campaign tool to drive public opinion on the party being corrupt and endorsing VIP culture despite claiming to be “aam aadmi”.

Despite attempting to mark its electoral presence in Himachal and Gujarat, AAP was driven back to manage their campaign and firefight on multiple fronts in Delhi by BJP.

The MCD results come a day ahead of the results of Gujarat and Himachal Assembly elections are scheduled to be declared.
