As the results of high-stakes Delhi MCD elections poured in, Aam Aadmi Party’s victory became apparent with the final tally of 134 seats for AAP, followed by BJP winning 104 seats.

An elated Atishi Marlena who’s AAP MLA from Kalkaji constituency said that the poll outcome indicates that people of Delhi have faith in Arvind Kejriwal.

Speaking to The New Indian she said, “I think it is a resounding victory for the Aam Aadmi Party. It is for the first time that the same party has come in power in the Delhi government as well as the Delhi Municipal Corporation”.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had been administering the Delhi Municipal Corporation for the last 15 years.

She added, “For the same party to be in power in government and municipal corporations indicates that people trust Arvind Kejriwal.”

In January 2013, Atishi became involved in policy formulation for the AAP. She was appointed the Lok Sabha in-charge for East Delhi for 2019 Lok Sabha elections. She contested from the East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency as an AAP party candidate for the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections but lost to BJP’s candidate Gautam Gambhir by a margin of 4.77 lakh votes, coming in third.

She contested in the 2020 Delhi Legislative Assembly election from Kalkaji constituency of South Delhi by defeating BJP candidate Dharambir Singh by a margin of 11,422 votes.

On the question of AAP’s tepid performance in Muslim-dominated areas, Atishi said that AAP is doing well. She said, “ The Aam Aadmi Party is performing well everywhere”.

In response to Gujarat Assembly Elections whose results are scheduled to be declared on Dec 8, Atishi indicated that Aam Aadmi Party will emerge as a winner. She said, “We are waiting for the results tomorrow. I am certain that the Aam Aadmi Party will become a National party. And we will try to build a better country”
