The election of the Delhi mayor is turning into a political nightmare, with the third attempt also failing to yield any desired result on February 6.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the largest political party in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House, said they will now move to the Supreme Court on the matter.

Following yet another ruckus during the mayoral election, the House was adjourned for the third time since January.

Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said that following the repeated nuisance being created by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillors during the mayoral election, the party has now decided to move to the Supreme Court.

Blaming the BJP for the fracas, the senior AAP leader said the latest failed attempt shows that the BJP neither follows the laws of the country nor the Constitution.

“They just want to run the MCD house with hooliganism. Now AAP will move the Supreme Court and will request the court to get the elections conducted in a lawful manner,” Delhi Dy CM Sisodia added.

“The BJP is scared that if the elections happen, an AAP mayor will be elected and all the misdeeds and corruption of the BJP will be exposed. The AAP mayor will ensure the development of Delhi and make it clean, but the BJP is not letting the mayoral elections happen,” he said.

The results of the MCD elections were declared on December 7, 2022. It has been two months and yet the elected representatives are yet to come to terms on electing a mayor.

Sisodia said the people of Delhi were irked by the corruption and hooliganism of the BJP in the past 17 years and thus they chose AAP over the BJP with the majority. “Delhi people gave the clear mandate that they want AAP in the MCD,” he said.

AAP got 134 seats in the MCD elections. The BJP, on the other hand, managed to secure only 104 seats.

“Still, the BJP is trying to control the MCD. They tried to bribe our councillors into defecting but failed terribly. “For the past two months, even after the public gave the AAP its mandate, the BJP has been illegally interfering in the affairs of MCD and using the officials for their own purposes,” Sisodia said.
