The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP)’s battle for Delhi takes a creative turn as both parties wage a poster war on each other.
In the latest turn, both parties have posters akin to Bollywood movie posters, with images of each other’s leaders as characters.
The poster war is a continuation of their tussle in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), which took ugly turns on many occasions.
On Saturday, the social media teams waged a Bollywood poster war, with the BJP drawing the first blood with a poster similar to the 1993 film Khal-Naaika. The movie featured Jitendra, Jaya Prada and Anu Agarwal.
The BJP added a twist to the take by including photos of AAP leaders such as MLAs Durgesh Pathak and Atishi Marlena, as well as newly elected Delhi mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi.
AAP was quick to react as they added their ‘touch’ to the 1974 film starring Shashi Kapoor and Mumtaz. They changed the name of the ‘film’ to ‘Ballot Chor Machaye Shor’ while using the pictures of BJP leaders Gautam Gambhir, Manoj Tiwari and Harish Khurana.
Tweeting the poster, AAP wrote, “The BJP people who are making so much noise are the murderers of democracy and the thieves of the ballot.”
The latest development saw councillors from both parties indulge in physical altercations with each other following the announcement of the results of the standing committee election.
Councillors from both parties relived the shameful day of January 6, when the House met for the first time and they came to blows over the election of the Delhi mayor, during the results of the voting for six standing committee members. On February 24, the house witnessed the same.
Multiple videos of an assault and fight between the councillors surfaced on social media. Both parties, however, blamed each other for the latest ruckus.
The AAP leaders claim that BJP councillors, including male BJP councillors, physically assaulted Delhi mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi.
BJP leaders, meanwhile, blamed AAP leader Atishi Marlena for instigating the women members of her party to attack opposition councillors.
They released a video that purportedly showed Atishi allegedly giving instructions to a female councillor from the party. The female councillors then joined the melee and were seen physically attacking rival councillors.
