Maruti Suzuki India Limited registered a record export of 263,068 units for 2022 on Tuesday. This is an increase of 28 per cent over the previous record of 205,450 vehicles dispatched overseas in 2021.
According to the company, in 2022, the highest exported models by Maruti Suzuki were Dzire, Swift, S-Presso, Baleno and Brezza.
“Crossing the 2-lakh milestone in exports for the second consecutive year signifies the trust, quality, reliability, performance, and affordability of our products,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
“This achievement further aligns with our strong commitment to the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative to manufacture products to delight global customers,” Takeuchi said.
He further added, “We are thankful for the support from our parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation, to enable us to leverage a wider distribution network across the globe. Further, adding more models to our portfolio helped sustain excitement in the export markets.”
In 2022, Suzuki exported more than double the amount it exported in the preceding COVID year. It exported 1,07,190 vehicles in 2019. The company’s vehicle export numbers came down in 2020 during the COVID pandemic.
Maruti Suzuki started exports in FY 1985-87, with the company’s first consignment going to Hungary. Maruti Suzuki today exports to around 100 countries.
Maruti Suzuki vehicles enjoy high popularity among customers in regions like Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, ASEAN and neighbouring regions. The company exports 16 models at present.
The exported vehicle number of the company in the last 5 years shows an upward trend since 2020. The company exported 85,208 vehicles in 2020, which has now increased to 2,63,068.
