New Delhi: BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa visited a gurudwara on Thursday morning to seek blessings ahead of his swearing-in as a minister in the new Delhi government led by Chief Minister-designate Rekha Gupta.
Expressing gratitude to the partyโs top leadership, Sirsa said, โI thank PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Baijayant Panda, and Virendra Sachdeva for giving me this opportunity. This government has been formed to fulfill PM Modiโs vision for Delhi, and we will work together to make the city beautiful once again.โ
Sirsa, a prominent Sikh leader and BJPโs national secretary, has also criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for allegedly sidelining Sikhs from the Delhi cabinet during its 12-year rule.
He won the Rajouri Garden Assembly seat with a margin of 18,190 votes, securing 64,132 votes against AAPโs Dhanwati Chandela.
Sirsa has represented this constituency twice before and remains a key figure in Delhiโs Sikh community.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 12:15 PM at Ramlila Maidan, where Rekha Gupta will take the oath as Chief Minister along with six cabinet ministersโParvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, Pankaj Kumar Singh, and Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
Rekha Gupta, the newly designated CM, has expressed her commitment to fulfilling the expectations of PM Modi and the party leadership. โI will stand up to their trust and work for the betterment of Delhi,โ she said.
The event will be attended by PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, senior BJP leaders, and NDA Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers.
BJPโs victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, securing 48 out of 70 seats, marks its return to power in the national capital after 27 years.
The delay in government formation since the results on February 8 had drawn criticism from opposition parties.
