Manish Sisodia lodged in senior citizen cell in Tihar

Former Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia has been named accused number 1 by CBI in the liquor policy case.

Manish Sisodia, former Delhi deputy chief minister, is currently lodged in Tihar jail’s senior citizen’s cell. He was given jail’s ‘sparsh’ kit carrying toothpaste, soap, a toothbrush, blankets, and a bed sheet.

Sisodia, was sent for 14-days of judicial custody on Monday after which he was taken to Tihar. Following his medical examinations in Tihar he was taken to the senior citizen cell.

He has been lodged in jail number 1, which is inhabited by some dreaded gangsters like Sunil Mann alias Tillu and east Delhi gangster Nassir. The jail officials said that they have beefed up the security as dreaded criminals are also lodged in the same jail.

According to jail officials, his vitals were fine and later he was given three blankets and a bed sheet for sleep. For dinner he was given a frugal meal of ‘roti, chawal and aloo matar ki sabzi’, said jail officials.

Jail officials also said he was not sharing the cell with anyone but might be sharing in the near future. His personal belongings like his clothes, diary, pen, and Bhagwat Gita can be given to him by his family members who will be visiting on Wednesday.

As of now, Sisodia is allowed to attend Yoga and other meditation sessions which are conducted for all the other inmates.

The Court of Special Judge MK Nagpal had granted permission for Sisodia to carry a pair of spectacles, a diary, a pen, and a copy of The Bhagavad Gita during the 14-day judicial custody. The court has also directed the jail superintendent to consider the request of keeping Sisodia in the Vipassana (meditation) cell.

Sisodia, who was arrested by the CBI in a case pertaining to alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the excise policy of Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD), will be lodged in Delhi’s Tihar jail.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody was extended till 20 March in the Delhi Excise policy ‘scam’. He was arrested on 26 February, after an eight hour interrogation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He resigned from his Deputy Chief Minister Post for the Delhi Government on 28 February.
