Manipur CM calls on Mizoram counterpart to refrain from interfering in internal affairs

Manipur CM urged Mizoram CM to refrain from commenting on internal matters of state

IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has urged the newly elected Chief Minister of Mizoram to abstain from making comments on the internal matters of Manipur. Instead, Singh appealed to his Mizoram counterpart to extend support in restoring peace within the state.

During the observance ceremony of Nupee Lal Numit, 2023, which commemorated the bravery of women who fought against the British Government, Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed his concerns over comments made by the newly elected Mizoram Chief Minister. Singh called on his counterpart to focus on helping restore normalcy in Manipur rather than expressing views beyond his constitutional rights.

Addressing the media, Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated, “Whatever happened in Manipur is our internal matter. Most of our colleagues have expressed their willingness to help. But, unfortunately, the newly elected CM of Mizoram, I have seen one comment from him, stating that state police shouldn’t harass his people in Moreh.

“It is beyond the Constitution as it is our internal matter. He doesn’t know what is happening in Moreh. A lot of communities are residing in Moreh. My earnest appeal to him is, please help us in restoring peace. I never commented when the Bru issue happened in Mizoram. Please pray and help us restore normalcy in Manipur.”

A day after the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) stormed to power in the Mizoram Assembly elections, Chief Minister-elect Lalduhoma stated that his government would continue to provide shelter and assistance to refugees from Myanmar and those displaced from Manipur. The Mizos share strong ethnic ties with Manipur’s Kuki and Myanmar’s Chin tribes.
