Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari added to the controversy with a press note highlighting alleged loopholes in border security.
NEW DELHI: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee have accused the Border Security Force (BSF) of aiding illegal infiltration from Bangladesh, alleging a central government conspiracy to destabilize the state. Mamata Banerjee claimed infiltrators were being allowed entry through areas like Islampur, Sitai, and Chopra, blaming the BSF for lapses in border security.
Abhishek Banerjee echoed these allegations, accusing the BSF of enabling extremist infiltration and criticizing the BJP for failing to hold the force accountable. He highlighted recent arrests of suspected extremists in West Bengal and questioned the BJP’s rhetoric on infiltration, citing similar issues in Tripura and Assam.

BJP West Bengal President Sukanta Majumdar dismissed the accusations as baseless, accusing Mamata Banerjee of deflecting from her administration’s failures. He alleged she was shielding her party’s wrongdoings and predicted her political downfall. The BSF denied the allegations, asserting its commitment to securing the nation’s borders.

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari added to the controversy with a press note highlighting alleged loopholes in border security. Adhikari detailed issues such as incomplete fencing along Bengal’s border with Bangladesh, slow land acquisition, and inadequate transfer of land to the BSF despite payments. He also alleged that many Bangladeshi nationals apprehended by the BSF secure bail and reoffend, with little action from state authorities.

TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh dismissed Adhikari’s claims as “political confusion,” accusing the BJP of failing to address core issues during the expansion of BSF’s jurisdiction. The BJP, however, has intensified its campaign against the TMC, alleging negligence in curbing illegal infiltration, particularly in light of recent arrests of suspected radicals and political changes in Bangladesh.
The border security debate continues to deepen the political divide in West Bengal, with both parties trading accusations while infiltration concerns persist.
