NEW DELHI: The Maldives Mumbai Indians partnership has been announced, appointing the island nation as the official tourist destination partner for the Mumbai Indians. The partnership aims to promote Maldivian tourism during the 2025 cricket season.

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) confirmed this tie-up. It marks Visit Maldives’ first partnership of this kind in India. This move is part of Maldives’ efforts to strengthen ties with India.

Strengthening Ties with India

In February 2025, MMPRC hosted a special event at the Four Seasons Hotel in Mumbai. Over 100 guests, including Indian influencers and celebrities, attended the ‘Maldivian Night’. The event showcased Maldives’ tourist attractions. MMPRC aims to attract over 300,000 Indian tourists in 2025.

“This partnership with Mumbai Indians will allow us to connect with millions of cricket fans across India. We aim to inspire them to experience the Maldives’ serene beaches, vibrant marine life, and luxurious hospitality,” said Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of MMPRC.

Following India’s T20 World Cup win in July 2024, MMPRC and the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) invited Team India to celebrate their victory in the Maldives. “We would be honoured to host you and ensure your stay is filled with memorable moments, relaxation, and bespoke experiences,” Shiuree added.

India has consistently been a top source market for Maldives tourism. In 2021, over 278,740 Indians visited the Maldives, forming 22.6% of the total arrivals. In 2020, India led again with 62,960 tourists, making up 11.3% of the market. MMPRC has been active in promoting the Maldives at events, fairs, and campaigns to keep this trend strong.

Former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed stressed the importance of good relations with India. “For the prosperity and security of the Maldives, ties with India are vital. Tourism between the two nations is complementary, and Indian tourists have played a key role in boosting our economy,” Nasheed said. He further highlighted the growing number of Indian tourists choosing the Maldives for holidays and celebrations.

The Maldives Mumbai Indians partnership will include digital campaigns, on-ground events, and exclusive travel experiences for fans. Cricket enthusiasts will get a glimpse of Maldives’ pristine beaches, luxury resorts, and unique culture.

This collaboration is expected to elevate the Maldives’ presence in India’s tourism market, enhancing its appeal as a prime vacation destination. “We look forward to welcoming Indian travelers seeking memorable moments in our tropical paradise,” Shiuree concluded.
