NEW DELHI : Hours after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a money laundering case against TMC leader Mahua Moitra in the cash-for-query scam, the former MP from the Krishnanagar constituency,dropped a hint that her mother might step into the Lok Sabha election fray if she is arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) before the upcoming polls.
Moitra shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp message from her mother, urging her to prepare a power of attorney in her name. The message read, “In case they pick you up, I will file the nomination.”

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Moitra praised her mother’s resilience, calling her the “original Sherni. She wrote, ” My mother’s answer to BJP’s daily ED/CBI lovefest. You rock mummy – the original Sherni.

ED has filed a money laundering case against Moitra based on the CBI’s FIR in the cash-for-query irregularities case
The ‘cash-for-query’ case has put Moitra in the spotlight. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey alleges that she accepted money from Dubai-based businessman Hiranandani to raise questions in Parliament targeting the Adani Group. Legal proceedings have ensued, including hearings in the Supreme Court, leading to Moitra’s expulsion from the Lok Sabha.
Despite the expulsion from the Lok Sabha, Trinamool Congress (TMC) has nominated the controversial queen from the Krishnanagar seat and the BJP has fielded ‘Rajmata’ Amrita Roy against Mahua Moitra in Bengal’s Krishnanagar constituency. Amrita Roy holds the title of ‘Rajmata’ due to her association with the ‘rajbari’ (royal palace) of Krishnanagar.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Mahua Moitra of the Trinamool Congress won the Krishnanagar seat with a significant margin, securing 614,872 votes. The BJP’s Kalyan Chaubey received 551,654 votes, and CPI (M)’s Dr. Shantanu Jha received 120,222 votes
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections are just a few days away, with West Bengal scheduled to vote in seven phases. Krishnanager will participate in the fourth phase on May 3rd.
