NEW DELHI: Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, who is currently on a five-day visit to Japan to steer Maharashtra’s developmental agenda, found himself in a plush meeting room at the Sony headquarters in Tokyo city on Friday. He met Sony Group’s senior vice president Shiro Kambe and shared his vision of a creative alliance between Japan’s technological prowess and Bollywood’s cinematic splendor. Fadnavis extended an invitation to Sony, a global tech and entertainment giant to collaborate with Bollywood.
He underlined the extraordinary talent that the Indian film industry harbors, from ingenious creators to skilled animators, waiting to be complemented by Sony’s cutting-edge capabilities. The proposal wasn’t just about the glamor of the silver screen; it was backed by a strategic intent to expand the horizons of both nations.

This proposal could be very beneficial for the Hindi film industry as it will not only provide an economic Boost to Maharashtra, but Sony’s global presence could serve as a gateway for Bollywood to reach international markets more effectively. Fadnavis’s visit to Japan is aimed at strengthening partnerships for several big-ticket infrastructure ventures within the state. During their interaction, he expressed his desire for Sony to explore a partnership with IIT Bombay, envisioning joint ventures that could redefine technological innovation.

During his five-day visit, the deputy chief minister held delegation level meetings with several senior government officials, business persons and met noted Japanese citizens.
Positioning Maharashtra as a prime choice to entice Japanese investors, the Deputy CM expressed that the state is eager to establish partnerships with Japan across a wide array of industries — infrastructure, education, and healthcare. He said Sony is interested in increasing tech and content business in India.
In a tweet, he highlighted his discussions with his Japanese counterparts, underlining Maharashtra’s eagerness to collaborate in areas spanning infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
