The alliance, which comprises the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), the Congress, and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, has decided to contest 20, 18, and 10 seats respectively out of the 48 seats in the state.
New Delhi : The Maharashtra Opposition alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), has announced its seat-sharing formula for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled to be held in April-May 2024. The alliance, which comprises the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), the Congress, and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, has decided to contest 20, 18, and 10 seats respectively out of the 48 seats in the state.
The MVA leaders met in Mumbai on Wednesday and finalised the seat distribution after several rounds of negotiations. The alliance also accommodated two smaller parties, the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) and the Swabhimani Paksha, by giving them two and one seat respectively from the Shiv Sena (UBT)’s quota.

The MVA, which was formed in 2019 after the Maharashtra Assembly elections, is aiming to challenge the ruling BJP-led NDA in the state, which had won 41 out of the 48 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The MVA leaders expressed confidence that the alliance will put up a united and strong fight against the BJP and its allies, and will win the majority of the seats in the state.
The MVA also released a joint statement, highlighting its common agenda and vision for the state and the country. The statement said that the alliance is committed to protecting the Constitution, democracy, secularism, and federalism, and to working for the welfare of the farmers, workers, youth, women, and the marginalized sections of society. The statement also said that the alliance will oppose the BJP’s policies and programs that are detrimental to the interests of the state and the nation, such as the farm laws, the CAA, the NRC, and the NPR.

The MVA is expected to announce its candidates and campaign strategy soon. The alliance will also hold joint rallies and meetings across the state to mobilise the voters and showcase its achievements and promises.
