New Delhi: With just two days remaining in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Sada Sarvankar, a key Shiv Sena leader, is confident of securing another victory in Mahim.

During his campaign trail, Sarvankar told The New Indian that he faces no fear from his younger opponents, stating, “All the young opponents are kids against me. My experience will help me win.” He further added that many of them hadn’t even been born when he started his political career, emphasizing the advantage of his long-standing experience in the field.

In an exclusive interaction, Sunil, a resident from Dadar near Mahim Beach, spoke to The New Indian, expressing his belief that the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance is poised for a return.

He pointed to significant infrastructure developments in the area and dismissed opposition narratives that certain projects had been taken out of the state, calling them mere facades.

Sarvankar is facing stiff competition from MNS candidate Amit Thackeray, the son of MNS chief Raj Thackeray, who is making his political debut in Mahim. The race also includes Mahesh Sawant from Shiv Sena (UBT). Despite the challenge, Sarvankar expressed complete confidence, citing his strong track record in the constituency.

Sarvankar has won the Mahim seat in both the 2014 and 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections. In 2014, he defeated MNS’s Nitin Sardesai with a vote share of 33.97%, securing 40,350 votes. In 2019, he increased his vote share to 49.45%, winning 61,337 votes and defeating MNS’s Sandeep Deshpande.

Mahim, part of the Mumbai South Central Lok Sabha constituency, remains a Shiv Sena bastion. However, with Amit Thackeray’s entry into the fray, the contest has become more competitive.

MNS, which has historically struggled in this seat, sees this as a crucial moment to challenge Shiv Sena’s dominance.
