Polling commenced on Wednesday morning in Maharashtra as over 9.7 crore voters gear up to select from 4,136 candidates contesting across 288 constituencies. Voting began at 7 AM and will continue until 6 PM, with the results scheduled to be declared on November 23.
In the BJP-led ruling Mahayuti alliance, the BJP is contesting 149 seats, Shiv Sena is competing for 81, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP has fielded candidates in 59 constituencies. Meanwhile, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance comprises Congress contesting 101 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) vying for 95, and NCP (SP) fielding 86 candidates.
Smaller parties like the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and AIMIM are also in the fray, with BSP contesting 237 seats and AIMIM 17.
