NEW DELHI: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis filed his nomination from the Nagpur South-West constituency on Friday, Oct 25. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, BJP Maharashtra President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, and prominent leaders like Bunty Kukde were present to support Fadnavis as he submitted his papers.
Expressing his gratitude, Fadnavis thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for their trust in him as he seeks re-election in the upcoming Assembly elections. “With the people’s support and my mother’s blessings, victory is certain. I’ve won every election with a strong margin, and I’m confident this sixth victory will be even greater,” said Fadnavis.
Fadnavis, who served as chief minister from 2014 to 2019 and briefly in November 2019, has successfully contested the assembly polls five times from the city—twice from the Nagpur West constituency and three times from Nagpur South-West.
He emphasized the need for the Mahayuti alliance to maintain the development momentum in Maharashtra, saying, “This will be my sixth election, and I am confident that the people will support me. With the achievements of the Mahayuti government, we aim to return to power in the state.”
The Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with results for all 288 constituencies set to be announced on November 23. The political landscape features a contest between the ruling Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena-BJP-NCP Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes the Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP.
Fadnavis noted that the Mahayuti alliance has finalized the distribution of 278 out of 288 assembly seats, with discussions expected to continue in Mumbai. He indicated that the remaining 10 seats will be settled in the coming days.
Addressing a gathering at the end of the roadshow, Fadnavis said, “Our work speaks louder than our words. People can see the development in Nagpur—whether it’s the Nagpur Metro Rail, the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway, or other development projects that have transformed the face of Nagpur.”
