NEW DELHI: The Indian Navy inducted the 8th Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) Barge, LSAM 22 (Yard 132), during a ceremony at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, on January 6, 2025. Commodore Vinay Venkataram, Officer-in-Charge, Fleet Maintenance Unit (Mumbai), officiates the event, marking another milestone in the Navy’s commitment to operational readiness and self-reliance.

The ACTCM Barges, built under a contract with M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt. Ltd., Thane, represent a significant collaboration with the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector. The contract, finalized on March 5, 2021, covers the construction and delivery of 11 ACTCM Barges, 7 of which have already been delivered.

The MSME shipyard has also secured an additional contract to construct and deliver 4 Sullage Barges for the Navy, underscoring the Navy’s support for MSMEs and indigenous manufacturing.
Designed indigenously in partnership with an Indian ship designing firm, the ACTCM Barges undergo rigorous model testing at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory, Visakhapatnam, ensuring their seaworthiness.

These barges are built in compliance with the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) rules and regulations.
The induction of LSAM 22 bolsters the Indian Navy’s operational commitments by enabling efficient transportation, embarkation, and disembarkation of ammunition and essential articles to naval platforms, both at jetties and outer harbours.
