NEW DELHI: Lovely Professional University (LPU) marked the 78th Independence Day with a grand celebration infused with patriotism and unity. The campus was adorned in tricolours as the entire LPU community came together for the occasion.
The highlight of the event was the national flag hoisting by Dr Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU. The event was presided over by LPU Pro-Chancellor Colonel Rashmi Mittal. The celebration featured a vibrant March Past, with talented students from NCC, NSS, and various disciplines paying tribute to the flag and its values.
In his address to the gathered audience, Dr Mittal paid heartfelt tribute to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom. He emphasized the ongoing transformation of India into a “Shreshtha Bharat”—a new India that is strong, resilient, and invincible. Dr. Mittal highlighted the nation’s remarkable achievements across diverse fields, including the rise of unicorn startups, and advancements in digitization, sports, education, science, and entertainment.
Dr. Mittal also expressed immense pride in LPU’s contributions to the nation, particularly in the field of sports. He shared that 24 LPU students were part of the Indian contingent at the Paris Olympics 2024, representing 21% of the team. He also reminded the LPU community that with great power comes great responsibility, urging everyone to continue their contributions to the nation with the same zeal and dedication in the years to come.
The celebrations were further enriched by a series of cultural performances that captivated the audience. The Swaraag Band delivered a stirring performance of patriotic songs, evoking a deep sense of national pride. Other cultural acts included mime performances, skits, melodious presentations, and poetry recitations, each paying tribute to the nation’s rich heritage and the sacrifices made by its people. The atmosphere was electric with the sounds of patriotic slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” “Vande Mataram,” and “Jai Hind,” echoing across the campus.
