Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of shielding billionaire Gautam Adani In a scathing press briefing on November 21.
NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of shielding billionaire Gautam Adani In a scathing press briefing on November 21.
Speaking at the Congress headquarters, Gandhi alleged, “It’s clear that Adani has violated both American and Indian laws. Despite this, he is roaming freely while leaders like the Delhi Chief Minister and Jharkhand Chief Minister have been arrested. Why? Because Prime Minister Narendra Modi is protecting him.”
His remark came after reports of a U.S. prosecution case against the industrialist Adani surfaced.
Gandhi alleged that Adani is at the centre of a massive corruption scandal involving bribes worth ₹2,029 crore paid to Indian government officials to secure solar power contracts.
U.S. prosecutors have reportedly indicted Gautam Adani and seven others for allegedly paying bribes to influence contract awards.
Gandhi further claimed that the BJP’s funding is tied to Adani, making it impossible for Modi to act against the businessman. “Even if the Prime Minister wants to take action, he can’t because he is under Adani’s control. Note this down—Adani has committed a scam of ₹2,000 crores, but he won’t face an investigation or arrest because of his links with the PM,” Gandhi stated.
He also alleged that the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), led by Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch, has failed to act on allegations of wrongdoing by Adani. Gandhi vowed to continue exposing those involved in what he termed a “massive corruption scandal.”
When asked about reviewing Adani’s projects in opposition-ruled states, Gandhi said, “Wherever there is corruption, there should be an investigation. But it must begin with Adani. Until he is arrested, no probe will seem credible.”
Following the reports, Adani stocks tumbled on Dalal Street today, with key shares like Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports taking a hit.
