NEW DELHI: The leader of the Opposition in Punjab, Partap Singh Bajwa condemned the attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal outside Sri Darbar Sahib. Bajwa described the act as “deeply unfortunate and unequivocally condemnable,” emphasizing that such violence undermines democratic values and societal harmony.
On Wednesday, Dec 4, A man opened fire at Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal at the entrance of the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Badal, dressed in a blue sewadar uniform and seated in a wheelchair due to a fractured leg, was reportedly serving his religious punishment when the incident occurred.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the assailant attempted to disrupt Badal’s visit by opening fire at the entrance, sparking panic among devotees and onlookers. Fortunately, Badal escaped unhurt as security personnel quickly intervened to subdue the attacker. Authorities are currently investigating the motives behind the attack and have increased security in the area to prevent further disturbances.
Partap Singh Bajwa, in his statement, stressed the importance of fostering peace and understanding in Punjab, urging all stakeholders to come together during this sensitive time. “For too long, I have emphasized the importance of addressing developments in Punjab with a profound sense of responsibility. This should serve as a wake-up call for political leaders, social organizations, and citizens to foster dialogue and peace,” he remarked.
Bajwa also called on law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation while appealing to the public and political leaders to exercise restraint. “Punjab’s rich heritage of mutual respect and understanding must guide us as we navigate this moment,” he added.
