NEW DELHI: A Hindu family has come forward with allegations of coercion and harassment, seeking intervention from the district administration in Darbhanga, Bihar. The family claims to be the only Hindu household in a predominantly Muslim village, facing relentless pressure for religious conversion.

Vicky Kumar, a family member, filed a complaint with the District Magistrate (DM), highlighting the persistent threats and intimidation tactics employed against them. Vicky alleged that his family has been assaulted and inappropriate items have been hurled into their home, all aimed at forcing the family to vacate the village. They asserted that they are being forced to embrace Islam if they want to continue residing in the area.

Rajdhani Devi, the matriarch of the family, expressed frustration with the lack of assistance from authorities, stating her contemplation of converting to Islam due to the ongoing harassment. Despite seeking help for three years, she claims no action has been taken, and officials are allegedly complicit in allowing the mistreatment to persist.

She told The New Indian, “Please assist us. None of the officials are helping us; they only issue orders. They are not allowing us to demarcate our private land. Now I feel that according to our constitution, Hindus have no right to reside here. Therefore, all officials are misleading us.”

Following the DM’s directive, an FIR was lodged in the case. However, speaking to TNI, Vicky reported that no concrete steps have been taken to address their grievances, with local police allegedly favouring the accused by accepting bribes.

DM Rajiv Roshan commented on the matter, affirming that an investigation has been initiated. Initial assessments suggest a potential connection to a land dispute, but thorough inquiries are underway to ascertain all relevant details.
