SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmirโ€™s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, stated on Monday that the Indian Army is delivering a firm response to ceasefire breaches by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch.

Addressing the media, Sinha emphasized the seamless coordination between the Jammu and Kashmir Police and security forces in tackling threats.

โ€œThe Indian Army is responding appropriately. There is strong coordination between the Jammu and Kashmir Police and security agencies, and they have been directed to eradicate terrorism at all costs,โ€ Sinha asserted.

He further stressed that maintaining peace remains the administrationโ€™s foremost priority. โ€œActions being taken in this regard will remain continuous and unbroken. Our primary focus is to sustain peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir,โ€ he added.

Officials confirmed that gunfire erupted around 11 am on Sunday, prompting an immediate counteraction by the Indian Army.

The development follows closely on the heels of the Army reaffirming that the ceasefire agreement along the LoC remains intact despite occasional isolated firing incidents.

Earlier, on February 13, Pakistani forces  breached the ceasefire by initiating unprovoked gunfire on Indian military positions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmirโ€™s Poonch district, prompting a firm counteraction by the Indian Army.

The ceasefire breach in the Krishna Ghati sector occurred just a day after on February 12 two Indian Army personnel, including a captain, lost their lives in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast suspected to have been orchestrated by terrorists near the LoC in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district.

Such violations along the LoC have been infrequent since India and Pakistan reaffirmed their ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021.
