NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday wished Defence Minister and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh a happy 73rd birthday, lauding his contributions to India’s defence sector. Modi described Singh as a “valued Cabinet colleague” widely respected for his wisdom and commitment to public service.
“Best wishes to Shri @rajnathsinghJi on his birthday. He is at the forefront of strengthening India’s defence apparatus and making our nation self-reliant in the sector. Praying for his long and healthy life,” PM Modi wrote on X.

Rajnath Singh responded with gratitude, highlighting the progress made under Modi’s leadership. “Pradhanmantriji, I’m deeply grateful for your kind words. India has made tremendous progress under your able leadership. Your vision for #AtmaNirbharBharat is an inspiration to India’s defence sector,” Singh posted on X.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended birthday wishes to Singh. “Heartiest birthday wishes to Union Defence Minister and senior BJP leader Shri @rajnathsinghji. Your role in strengthening the BJP’s organization and the country’s security is remarkable. I pray to God for your good health and long life,” Shah wrote on X.
Singh, born on July 10, 1951, in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh, has had a distinguished career. He earned a Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Gorakhpur and began his career as a teacher. Singh served in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly and held various ministerial positions, including Minister of Education and Minister of Surface Transport. He was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2000 to 2002 and later served as Minister of Agriculture in the Union Cabinet.
In 2014, Singh was inducted into PM Modi’s first term cabinet as the Minister of Home Affairs. Since June 1, 2019, he has been heading the Ministry of Defence, playing a crucial role in advancing India’s defence capabilities and self-reliance.

Other leaders also conveyed their wishes. Former Cabinet Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi posted, “Heartiest birthday wishes to the public leader, Raksha Mantri @rajnathsinghji, who is working with the resolve to strengthen India’s defence sector.”

Union Minister Piyush Goyal also praised Singh’s leadership. “Under your able leadership, today our defence sector is moving on the path of becoming self-reliant by exporting defence equipment made in India to the entire world. I pray to God for your long life,” Goyal wrote on X.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined in, wishing Singh excellent health, a long life, and continuous success. “Heartiest birthday wishes to Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Your contributions to the state and the nation are commendable,” Adityanath posted on X.
Rajnath Singh’s extensive career and dedication have made him a respected figure in Indian politics.
