The terrorists opened fire on the search parties, critically injuring the JCO and four other ranks. All five soldiers succumbed to their injuries.

According to officials, there are reports of a group of heavily armed terrorists hiding in Chamrer woodland after crossing the Line of Control (LoC).

Reports say reinforcements were rushed to the area to ensure the terrorists do not have an escape route and are neutralised.

Shiv Sena and Dogra Front workers held anti-Pakistan protests by burning an effigy of the Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for aiding and abetting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress condemned the killing of the five Army personnel and urged the BJP-led government to take tough measures to tackle Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in the Union Territory.
