NEW DELHI: Delhi government has geared up to ensure lane driving across the city very soon.

As per the statement, the Kejriwal government had started a pilot project to promote lane driving in Delhi with new road markings in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. It turned out to be successful, it said.

A pilot project with IIT Delhi was implemented on a 4.5 km road stretch between Raja Garden to Britannia Chowk. The result showed there is a 23 per cent increase in the speed of public buses while there is a 54 per cent drop in lane driving violation cases by buses.

Based on the experiences of this unique pilot project, road markings and lane driving practice will be implemented all across Delhi, the statement said.

“To promote lane driving in Delhi, global standards are being followed by the PWD; this practice will strengthen road safety in the national capital,” said Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
