Lakhimpur Kheri violence: Charges framed against Ashish Mishra, 13 others

A court here on Tuesday framed charges against Ashish Mishra and 13 others in connection with the October 2021 violence in Lakhimpur Kheri’s Tikunia in which four farmers were killed.

After almost 14 months since the incident which claimed 8 lives, charges were framed against the 14 accused, including Ashish Mishra, son of MoS Home Ajay Mishra Teni.

Out of these, 13 accused including the minister’s son, will be tried under serious sections of murder, attempt to murder, mutiny and the Arms Act.

The 13 accused: Ashish Mishra, Sumit Jaiswal, Ashish Pandey, Lavkush Rana, Shishu Pal, Ankit Das, Nandan Singh Bisht, Satya Prakash Tripathi alias Satyam, Latif alias Kale, Shekhar Bharti,Ullas Kumar alias Mohit Trivedi, Rinku Rana and Dharmendra Banjara were framed under sections 147, 148, 149, 307, 326, 302, 427, 120B of IPC.

The 14th accused in the case, Virendra Shukla presently out on bail will be prosecuted for attempting to erase evidence under section 201 of IPC.

The hearing was held by Additional District Court and Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar Verma.

The trial case will begin on 16 December 2022.

There are a total of 14 accused in this case, including Ashish Mishra, the son of the Union Minister of State for Home, one accused is out of jail on bail.

District Government Counsel Arvind Tripathi informed that the court of Additional District Judge framed charges against all the 14 accused in connection with Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.

He also said that charges against 13 accused were framed under sections 147, 148, 149, 307, 326, 302, 427, 120B of IPC, section 177 of motor vehicle act while another accused Virendra Shukla has been framed under section 201 of IPC.

A total of eight people, including four farmers were killed in the infamous Lakhimpur Kheri incident on October 3, 2021. Reportedly, the accused had rammed the vehicle over a mob of protestors in Banbirpur village near Tikunia in Lakhimpur Kheri district. A total of 8 people were killed including 4 farmers, in the incident.

The court slapped IPC sections 147- rioting, 148- rioting with deadly weapons, 149- common intention, 326- dismemberment, 307- murderous assault, 302- murder, against thirteen accused including minister’s son Ashish.

Charges have been framed under 120B-criminal conspiracy, 427-causing damage to property, and section 177 (punishment for violation of Motor Vehicles Act) of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Apart from this, Section 3/25 of the Arms Act against the accused Sumit Jaiswal (carrying arms without license), Section 30 of the Arms Act (for violating the conditions of arms license) against the accused ministers Ashish Mishra, Ankit Das, Latif alias Kale and Satyam Tripathi.

Accused Nandan Singh Bisht was also charged under section 5/27 of the Arms Act (punishment for using illegal firearms)
