NEW DELHI: In a major boost to gig and logistics employment in India, the Ministry of Labour & Employment signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with food delivery platform Swiggy today in New Delhi.

The agreement, signed in the presence of Union Labour Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State Sushri Shobha Karandlaje, aims to generate over 12 lakh job opportunities in the next 2โ€“3 years through the National Career Service (NCS) portal.

Calling the NCS portal a โ€œdynamic platformโ€ for connecting job seekers and employers, Dr. Mandaviya noted that as of January 31, 2025, the portal hosts over 1.25 crore active job seekers and 40 lakh registered employers. โ€œThis collaboration with Swiggy will enable flexible and location-based job access, especially benefiting youth looking for opportunities in the gig and platform economy,โ€ he said.

The MoU will allow Swiggy to integrate real-time listings of verified delivery, logistics, and support roles directly onto the NCS portal through API-based integration. This seamless link will enable better visibility, faster applications, and improved employment matching across urban and semi-urban regions.

Dr. Mandaviya praised Swiggyโ€™s commitment to inclusive hiring and said the partnership would support digital empowerment and spread awareness of worker welfare schemes. He also reiterated the governmentโ€™s goal of making NCS a one-stop hub for employment, skilling, and counselling.

Speaking on the occasion, Swiggyโ€™s Chief of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Dinker Vashisht, welcomed the partnership, calling it a model for how digital entrepreneurship can align with public-sector initiatives to scale inclusive growth. โ€œThis MoU is a step forward in building structured onboarding and enhancing livelihood opportunities for gig workers,โ€ he said.

Key features of the MoU include:

  • Real-time job postings via API-based integration for delivery and logistics roles

  • Inclusive hiring focus, especially for youth and women

  • Digital onboarding and promotion of welfare schemes

  • Support for skilling and structured career pathways

This collaboration is part of the Ministryโ€™s broader efforts to bridge the gap between job seekers and private-sector employers by signing MoUs with other leading gig platforms and employment portals.

The Ministry of Labour & Employment reaffirmed its commitment to engaging with the private sector and improving employment outcomes across India through the NCS platform.
