Bollywood playback singer Alka Yagnik shared on her social media handle that she has been diagnosed with “a rare sensorineural nerve hearing loss” due to a “sudden viral attack” she experienced while disembarking from a flight a few weeks ago.

NEW DELHI: Bollywood playback singer Alka Yagnik shared on her social media handle that she has been diagnosed with “a rare sensorineural nerve hearing loss” due to a “sudden viral attack” she experienced while disembarking from a flight a few weeks ago.

Yagnik took to Instagram and disclosed, “It has been diagnosed by my doctors as a rare sensorineural nerve hearing loss, due to a viral attack. This sudden, major setback has caught me completely unaware.”

Fans and followers are praying for her good health and recovery. The news is very saddening as India has lost many remarkable singers in the last few years due to serious health issues.

KK passed away while performing at a concert

Indian singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, better known as KK, passed away at the age of 53. He suffered a heart failure while performing at a live show in Kolkata. He had sung many songs that have touched the hearts of audiences, but the song ‘Pal… yaad aayenge yeh pal,’ which he was singing at his last concert, holds a special place in the hearts of his fans.

Pankaj Udhas passed away at the age of 72

In 2024, India lost renowned ghazal singer and Padma Shri awardee Pankaj Udhas to a prolonged illness. Udhas is best known for “Chitthi Ayee Hai” and “Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein.”

Lata Mangeshkar left for the heavenly abode at the age of 92

The legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar faced health issues in her later years, including hospitalization for respiratory problems in 2019. In February 2022, she passed away due to multiple organ failure. Mangeshkar had sung over 30,000 songs in her more than seven decades of career.

SP Balasubrahmanyam succumbed to COVID-19

South Indian singer SP Balasubrahmanyam was widely celebrated across India. He battled health issues and succumbed to complications from COVID-19 in 2020. He sang in many languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi. His songs ‘Dil Deewana’ and ‘Mere Rang Mein Rangne Wali’ from the movie ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ remain memorable.

Manna Dey died in the city he loved at 94

This versatile singer faced health problems in his later years and passed away in 2013 at the age of 94 due to cardiac arrest. He sang over more than 3,500 songs in 16 languages.

Jagjit Singh died from a haemorrhage in 2011

The ghazal maestro passed away from a haemorrhage in 2011 at the age of 70. Singh had sung popular compositions such as Chithi Na Koi Sandesh, Woh Kagaz Ki Kashti Aaj, Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho, and Charage Ishq Jalaane Ki Raat Aaye Hai, among others.

Bhupen Hazarika: Known for his contributions to Assamese music, Hazarika faced health issues later in life and passed away in 2011.
